Judy the school crossing supervisor from Inverloch, and Julie the school crossing supervisor from Wonthaggi came to visit our kinder room to teach the children about road safety. Safety of the children is paramount to us at Inverloch Childcare and we believe its important that the children apply what they learn in the centre out in the community as well.

The children learned to 'stop, look, listen, think' before crossing a road, to always make sure their bag is zipped up properly so that nothing falls out and to make sure their shoes are done up properly so that they don't trip over. 
Judy set up a pretend crossing on the floor with cars on the road and the children practised safe times to cross. Julie used different picture cards and gave the children different scenarios and asked them which is safe and which isn't for example a child riding a bike without a helmet. 
To finish off the session, the children had a turn of role playing pedestrians, crossing supervisors and cars at the intersection, so they could practice what they had learnt today.

​Inverloch Childcare is excited to announce the introduction of our newly developed Beach / Bush Kinder program, a first in South Gippsland. 

What is Beach / Bush Kinder?
The Beach / Bush kinder program is based on exposing children to outdoor learning environments under safe & controlled conditions. The program has been designed to be conducted in specific designated areas with the approval of Land Managers & under DET risk assessment requirements.
Children are exposed to a range of different learning styles while exploring the natural environment, learning maths & science, improving literacy skills & problem solving all whilst having fun outdoors.
 
The program will be offered one day a week from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
The Rotary Rotunda on The Esplanade Inverloch will be the designated meeting place.
Parents will have the option to bring their Child to the designated meeting place at the commencement of the session or to drop their child off at the Centre as normal, where by the child will then be accompanied to the meeting place. On completion of the session Children will be  accompanied back to the centre for pick up as normal.
 
A great deal of research has been conducted on the benefits of Bush Kinder, listed below is just a few.

• Develops confidence & resilience.
• Develops independence
• Develops social interaction skills & broadens friendship circles
• Develops a better understanding of “sense of place” & the local environment.
• Removes the pressures of learning in a traditional class room space
• Children are given the freedom to explore & learn to manage risk, in a controlled setting.

We are now taking enrolments but hurry because numbers are limited. We can't wait for you to join us. 
 

Every fortnight our Kinder children visit Opal aged care. These excursions help promote a sense of community and is nice for both children and the elderly to interact with people of different ages.

 On our visits to opal the children like to sing songs, do cooking experiences and play games, this week we did arts and crafts, with the children giving their wonderful creations to the residents.  Each time we attend the children become more confident in approaching their new friends and interacting with them. Our visits also help develop social skills, help build self esteem and provide a sense of purpose for the residents, it teaches the children to slow down and play in a more calm and gentle way and the residents love it.

 With the reverse art truck we have the opportunity to gather lots of different recyclable materiel's for the children use and create with. ​​​By using these resource materials we hope to educate children and families on the benefits of re-using, recycling and how to reduce.
After each visit the children are always so busy sorting through the resources to see what they can use and it is always interesting to see what they will create.
